M J Fielek
The speaker for our May meeting is M J Fielek. She has been sewing since she was quite young. She taught sewing and tailoring at Eastfield College and "Sewing with Knits" at Richardson High School. Her love for sewing turned to quilting in 1979 when she drafted and made her first quilt. Over the years MJ has made hundreds of quilts. She entered and was accepted in the IQA show and won 2nd place in the 2 person category. She has even traveled to Europe to the International Quilt Expo and taken classes from many European teachers. Her whole house is one big quilting studio!
M J will speak on quilts with simple blocks.
We are already thinking about next year's raffle quilt. Please bring a red, white or cream fat quarter to the March meeting. Please make sure it is quilt shop quality.
The AQG 2016 Mystery Quilt is starting soon! This is a 7-month mystery. The first clue can be picked up at the January meeting. The quilt, as set out in the clues, makes a quilt that is approximately 50” x 60”. However, it can easily be made larger by adding more blocks or by adding more borders.
The cost of the clues will be $5 per month. Persons participating in the mystery will be able to pick up their monthly clue at the guild meetings. Only cash will be accepted when picking up that month’s clue. If you miss a month, you may pick up the previous month's clue by paying for both at once. After the March meeting, no one new will be able to enroll in this year's mystery as that increases the difficulty for the Treasurer to keep track of who has picked up their block clues.
AQG will not be providing a fabric kit. You will need to purchase the required fabric (or raid your stash). Part of the fun of this mystery will be to see the fabrics which each of the guild members chooses.”The Big Reveal” will be held at the annual Mini-Quilt auction. Everyone who participates in the Mystery Quilt is encouraged to bring their mystery quilt or top or even partially finished pieces to the Mini-Quilt Auction so that everyone can see the variety.
If you are interested in signing up, feel free to e-mail me at email@example.com.
This month, please bring donations for lunch bags for Allen children during the summer. Items such as goldfish crackers, juice boxes, fruit rollups, individual mac and cheese, and raisins. We will also accept monetary donations. Also we are collecting Hobbs labels/barcodes from batting packages. This will enable us to get batting at a greatly reduced price from the Hobbs Company.
